Black Panther Script 2018

5/18/2019

Stephen and Donald Glover consulted with director Ryan Coogler on Black Panther's script days before shooting began. Marvel Studios is one of the biggest studios in Hollywood, but they have a very intimate process when it comes to making their films. The 'Marvel Family' consults when possible (i.e. how Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War teams worked together to create Wakanda), and that was no different when it came to the making of Black Panther.

The movie is one project Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has wanted to make for years, but it wasn't until 2014 that they confirmed their intention with Chadwick Boseman starring. Black Panther marks the first MCU movie led by a person of a color, and it has a predominantly black cast and crew too. As it turns out, Black Panther got even more help from two of Hollywood's rising stars.

Collider spoke to director Ryan Coogler as part of Black Panther's press junket and asked him about something that was spotted during the credits. No, it isn't about either of the film's two post-credits scenes, but rather a special thanks given to Donald Glover and his brother Stephen. Coogler revealed the brothers came in to give notes right before filming began and offered up 'some cool insight,' but they weren't typical studio notes to make changes, and instead to elevate the material.

Yeah, but it wasn't that kind of a thing where it was a 'Change this, change that.' We were looking at ways to highlight a few more character things, specifically with Shuri were she pokes fun at her brother. Donald's one of the funniest people that I know, so he had some interesting ideas, and Stephen's crazy talented as well.

While many know Donald's work as rapper Childish Gambino, his acting/producing/writing career is really taking off now. He joined the MCU for Spider-Man: Homecoming, and is one of the hottest names in the business after Atlanta. If any further indication of his popularity was needed, the reaction to him as Lando is just the latest evidence. Knowing that he and Stephen - who also served as a writer on Atlanta - helped with Black Panther Sketchup 64 bit windows 10. 's script (even in a small way) is great.

The Glover brothers being involved in some capacity is intriguing on its own, but to know they helped with Shuri is fascinating. Letitia Wright is being talked about as the breakout star of Black Panther thanks to her portrayal as Shuri. Whether that is because of her technological skills or her banter with T'Challa, viewers can't seem to get enough of her. Now knowing that the Glovers had something to do with it, there's even more reasons to understand why. Maybe this won't be the last time the Glovers help punch up a MCU script.

Synopsis

Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.
The character of Black Panther was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, first appearing in Fantastic Four #52 in July 1966. He was noteworthy for being the first superhero of African descent in mainstream comics, breaking new ground in the industry. After appearing in other titles across the Marvel Comics line, Black Panther received a solo series that originally ran from 1977 to 1979. Marvel has since published numerous volumes of Black Panther over the past several decades.
T'Challa first appeared onscreen in 2016's Captain America: Civil War, with Chadwick Boseman's performance earning positive marks from critics and fans. His standalone film was announced as part of the MCU's Phase 3 slate in October 2014. Ryan Coogler was hired as director in January 2016 and filming commenced a year later. Coogler grew up reading the Black Panther comics, so he believes this film will be as personal as his smaller, more dramatic works.
Black Panther will return in Avengers: Infinity War.
